Art Installation in Ballstad (Lofoten)
World Painting Project – Carla Romero Mosse
The Art Installation in Ballstad is an open-air initiative that brings together landscape, art, and community in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, Norway. The project involves the creation of wooden platforms measuring 2.40 x 2.40 meters, each equipped with large-scale easels specifically designed to withstand the harsh northern climate — sea winds, rain, and even snow. These structures host paintings that interact directly with the environment, transforming the Ballstad landscape into an open-air art gallery.
This initiative is part of the World Painting Project, an international artistic journey created by Spanish artist Carla Romero Mosse, who paints outdoors in different parts of the world. From the canals of Amsterdam, the golden coast of California, to New Zealand or Japan, her project connects places, people, and landscapes through direct painting in natural surroundings.
In Ballstad, several of Carla’s works are on display — paintings that represent the landscape of the Lofoten Islands, as well as places and experiences that have deeply inspired her. These include remote and isolated locations such as Little Island Lighthouse in Vesterålen and Vindstad in Moskenes — places where only a few people live, and where nature, silence, and human presence coexist in a delicate balance that profoundly shapes her artistic vision.
Carla collaborates with Kræmmervika Rorbuer, a historic complex of fishermen’s cabins, and with local volunteers who actively participate in building the platforms. Community involvement has been essential — providing materials, time, and enthusiasm — making this more than just an art exhibition. It becomes a celebration of belonging and a commitment to art as a unifying force among residents, visitors, and the landscape.
Supporting this project means promoting an innovative form of sustainable cultural tourism. It generates a positive impact on the local community through responsible tourism, educational activities, and events centered around art and nature. Sponsors gain visibility in a context of strong values — nature, art, community — while contributing to a lasting cultural legacy in Lofoten.
This project is also about making dreams come true. Carla’s journey is a living example of how personal vision, dedication, and authenticity can transform an idea into reality — inspiring others to believe that their dreams, too, are possible.
